| Objectives | 1. Motivate and mobilize Women Farmers through group approach; 2. Identify/Constitute Farm Women Groups to act as focal points for channelizing all Agricultural Support Services; 3. Provide regular and periodic technical training to women farmers in agriculture and allied areas; 4. Develop Managerial, Organizational, Entrepreneurial and Decision making skills and 5. Provide adequate Organizational and Financial Support to Women Groups to help them emerge Self Help Viable Units which can orchestrize their own activities and resources. |
| Salient Features | 1. Capacity Building of Women Farmers (Members of Self Help Groups); Link Workers (Conveners of Women Self Help Groups) and Facilitators Key Women Functionaries under the Scheme through Village-based/Refresher Training; Sancwich/ Reinforcement Training, Link Workers Training and Facilitators Training. 2. Regular Extension Support to Trained Women Farmers/Link Workers through Result Demonstrations, Study Tours and Mahila Goshtis. 3. Inculcation of Leadership Qualities; Group Dynamism; Group Interaction and Communication Skills. |
| Pattern of Assistance | 100% Grant-in-aid (by Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture). |
| Procedure to apply | The Extension of the Scheme to other States/Districts will be decided in consultation with Planning Commission. The State Govts./SAUs/NGOs will be requested to send their proposals accordingly. |

| Date of start/duration | The Scheme was initially launched on pilot basis during the Eighth Five Year Plan in one District each of 7 selected States of the country namely Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala and Rajasthan. However, it has been extended to one district each of 8 North-Eastern Hill States namely Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Sikkim, making it total of 15 States in the country during the Ninth Five Year Plan. |
| Implementation Status | 450 Farm Women Groups have been constituted/identified under the Scheme. Recurrent Training & Extension Support is being provided to 11,250 Women Farmers who have been enrolled under the Scheme. |
