| Salient features | Watershed Development Council(WDC) is a technically staff oriented Central Plan Scheme and was created during 1983-84 to service World bank aided Projects as well as other Foreign aided and National Projects. It has been designated as one of the executing agencies to provide technical assistance to Integrated Watershed Development Project(Hills-II) and other world bank aided Projects operational in various States of the Country. The role of WDC has been indicated in the Project Appraisal Document(PAD) of IWDP(Hill-II) as that of Co-ordinator and Convenor of govt. of India's overall watershed related policies. It is also responsible for facilitating and monitoring the progress of implementation of the Projects in respect of physical and financial achievement by interacting with the participating States. During IX Plan an amount of Rs.10.00 crores has been allocated under WDC. During 2001-02, an amount of Rs.1.50 crores has been allocated to take up monitoring and evaluation studies under IWDP(Hills-II) and NWDPRA, seminar and training besides salaries of staff, office expences, T.A., D.A. etc. |
